Job Description
Summary
Milwaukee School of Engineering (MSOE) invites applications for a full-time Counselor to join our Counseling Services team. Under the direction of the Dean of Students, the Counselor's role is to provide mental health assessment, short-term counseling, and crisis intervention for students at the Milwaukee School of Engineering. In addition, the Counselor is expected to organize and facilitate psychoeducational groups and outreach workshops that help students with academic and personal concerns. This person is expected to provide outreach to campus departments and/or colleagues to educate and inform the MSOE community of mental health concerns. Counselors will be required to stay current with trends and interventions that specifically relate to the university environment. 

Essential Job Functions
  • Conduct screening for a variety of mental health concerns including depression, anxiety, AODA, autism spectrum, ADHD, eating disorders, trauma, relationship, developmental, adjustment, time and stress management issues.
  • Develop and evaluate treatment plan and goals for individual clients relating to their concerns.
  • Consult with Wellness Center staff and other colleagues in the ongoing treatment of clients.
  • Consult with clients outside mental health providers (psychiatrists, psychotherapists) when needed.
  • Provide crisis intervention for clients with suicidal or violent ideation and intent.
  • Monitor follow up care for clients hospitalized for suicidal intent and ensure adherence to university protocol.
  • Provide screening and policy development for alcohol, marijuana, computer, or other addictions.
  • Facilitate outreach workshops and programming for students, faculty, and staff.
  • Plan, develop and implement mental health programming that caters to the student body that both promotes and supports the universities initiatives and mission of diversity, equity, inclusion and belonging.
  • When appropriate participate on committees, task forces, etc. to improve psychological environment on campus.
  • Manage relationships with current outside providers as well as establish new relationships to provide students with referrals to community providers when MSOE can no longer be the primary support for the student.
  • Provide case management services to students who are referred to community providers and/or who do not want to be seen by MSOE counseling staff but still require care.
  • Provide training for resident assistants, first year students, and classes as needed.
  • Assist in training of graduate-level counseling students.
  • Ensure licensure is up to date for state of Wisconsin, including continuing education as required by law.
Other Duties and Responsibilities
  • Provide front desk help to the Wellness Center when needed
  • Teach OR 1911 (Pathways to Achieving Student Success Course) if needed
  • Develop marketing materials and documents for the Wellness Center
  • Keep website counseling content up to date
  • Keep proper documentation through use of electronic health records
  • Provide support to probation and suspension students through referrals

Qualifications
  • Master's degree in counseling, social work, or related field required
  • Full licensure as an LPC, LCSW or LMFT through the state of Wisconsin
  • Must have excellent interpersonal communication and organizational skills
Skills and Abilities
  • Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating instructions, and procedure manuals.
  • Ability to write routine reports and correspondence. 
  • Ability to speak effectively before others. Ability to effectively communicate in both written and oral form.
  • Ability to use numbers to solve problems involving concrete variables in standardized situations.
  • Ability to apply commonsense understanding to carry out written or oral instructions.
Physical Demands
While performing the duties of this job the employee is largely sedentary, the ability to move is required. The employee is occasionally required to traverse within their work area as well as other areas on campus.

Work Environment
This job operates in a professional office environment. This role uses standard office equipment, including, but not limited to, computers, phones, photocopiers, and filing cabinets.
